Certifications
BAP Certified
At Bio-Oregon we are committed to supplying nutritious diets that are economically, ecologically, socially and culturally responsible. That is why our feed mills were the first in North America to achieve Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification. The BAP standard addresses environmental and social responsibility, animal welfare, food safety and traceability in a voluntary certification program.
Safety Standards
FeedAssure® is a comprehensive feed safety management and certification program. It is a customized full HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) program of processes and controls that bring the highest safety standards to feed production. FeedAssure® was the first feed industry HACCP program developed in North America and one of the first in the world.
Food Safety and Quality System
Nutrace® is Bio-Oregon’s food safety and quality system. This unique concept integrates measures to ensure quality and safety from feed raw materials through to finished products. Nutrace® has five sections – Certified Quality, Ingredient Assessment and Management, Monitoring, Risk Management, and Tracking & Tracing.
Standardization
ISO 9001:2000 is a set of standards designed to help organizations ensure that they meet the needs of customers and other stakeholders while meeting statutory and regulatory requirements. ISO 9001:2000 deals with the fundamentals of quality management systems, including the eight management principles upon which the family of standards is based. ISO 9001 deals with the requirements that organizations wishing to meet the standard must fulfill.
Global G.A.P.
GLOBAL G.A.P. is a standard for promoting economically, ecologically, socially and culturally responsible aquaculture (west coast plant only). For more information on the Global G.A.P. standard and how it is making a difference please visit: www.globalgap.org
Recycle
All Bio-Oregon fish feeds are packaged in 20 kilogram (44 pound) recyclable plastic bags. The bag material is Low Density Polyethylene (4-LDPE).
Quality Assurance
Quality Assurance
Bio-Oregon’s fish feed factory operates a fully equipped test laboratory. Our skilled and experienced analysts have the on-site resources necessary to ensure all fish feed is tested for the most critical parameters against strict specifications prior to its release.
Raw Material QC
A key factor in the control of our fish feed manufacturing process is sampling and testing raw material deliveries prior to release to intake. Only those loads conforming to specification are accepted.
Finished Product
At the point of packing, only those tons of fish feed that pass our rigorous testing program are released to dispatch. Protein, oil, moisture and ash levels are determined and checked for conformity against the fish feed’s declaration (as shown on the bag label). Physical quality is assessed, from checking the fish feed pellet dimensions, density and dust level.
Special Focus on Physical Quality
Before delivery, all Bio-Oregon fish feeds must pass through the “quality window” where elasticity and water content are the four cornerstones. A pellet that passes these tests is deemed suitable for a well-functioning hatchery.
